Founder of Mothers Helpers, Kristina Paterson registered as a nurse in 1995, practiced for 15 years before forming her own business as a nanny agency and parent coach. She has a Diploma specialising in youth, a Graduate Diploma in Not-for-Profit Management and a Masters in Social work with Massey University. She practices as a registered social worker offering private counselling in addition to her management of Mothers Helpers. Kristina founded Mothers Helpers in 2011 after having her own experience of antenatal and postnatal depression. These went undiagnosed for 18 months, and upon diagnosis, Kristina realised just how little support services were available to mothers with perinatal depression or anxiety, and wanted to do something about it. In 2014, Kristina wrote Perinatal Depression Recovery course “Out of the Fog” – a 10 week course that has proved to be very effective in helping mothers to become well. Data over the last 12 months has shown 90% of mothers are symptom free by course-end and all attendees experience an average of 48% improvement in symptoms. The Mothers Helpers’ team of social workers, counsellors and mental health nurses are trained and supervised by Kristina.
